Intensive Outpatient Program in Houston, Texas

Harmony Grove Behavioral Health offers dedicated outpatient and intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) in Houston, addressing the effects of alcohol and drug addiction and the underlying needs, stresses, and factors that impact your daily life. Our programs take a people-first approach, focusing on your needs beneath the disease and personalizing your healing through in-person individual and group sessions, a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere, and personalized healing programs that empower lasting change.

Houston Intensive Outpatient Program for Substance Use Disorders

Harmony Grove Behavioral Health’s IOP is designed for individuals seeking their next step in overcoming substance use disorder (SUD), mental health challenges, and co-occurring disorders while maintaining the flexibility to manage their schedule and daily life. IOPs are ideal for those who have practiced coping strategies and a healthy and engaged at-home support system, and may not need the around-the-clock supervision of inpatient treatment or the additional support of a partial hospitalization program (PHP), allowing for more freedoms, agency, and accountability in daily life.

Our IOP also helps support your journey as you transition from residential treatment to outpatient care, working as a step-down so you still have access to the clinicians and professional support while taking on new freedoms, responsibilities, and building your life outside the rehab facility.
While our Houston IOP is a great option for those exploring their personal journey and balancing ongoing healing with professional responsibilities or at-home family life, it is not ideal for everyone, with those with ongoing difficulty managing cravings, severe addiction, and living in unstable or non-supportive living arrangements benefiting more from the intense care of residential treatment.

Our outpatient alcohol rehab and drug addiction treatment provides a structured, evidence-based approach that offers a higher level of care than traditional outpatient therapy that works around your daily life, responsibilities, and schedule. This balance enables you to integrate effective, personalized tools and strategies learned in treatment into your everyday routines, fostering sustainable growth and recovery while managing cravings, implementing effective relapse prevention, and promoting a holistic approach to physical and mental wellness.

A Community-Driven IOP in Houston

We built our treatment center with a person-first focus, creating a comfortable atmosphere that takes a non-corporate approach to healing and community. With a relaxed atmosphere, a lounge area for those in healing, access to our treatment team, opportunities to connect with peers, and the recovery capital to pursue the change you strive for, we embrace the healing powers of community and real-world connection to make each person feel welcomed and celebrated in their journey.

What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a flexible treatment option designed to provide comprehensive care for those balancing ongoing healing from addiction and underlying mental health issues with professional responsibilities and daily obligations in life. Unlike residential programs, Harmony Grove’s outpatient addiction treatment allows you to live at home while attending treatment sessions several times a week, providing structured therapy without an overnight stay. This level of care bridges the gap between inpatient treatment and traditional outpatient care, providing the support and structure needed for individuals who require more than weekly counseling but have developed the skills to live a sober life without 24/7 supervision.

How IOP Compares to Inpatient Treatment and Residential Treatment

IOPs serve as a step down following inpatient treatment and residential care, continuing to provide effective substance abuse and mental health treatment while embracing new freedoms in healing. While inpatient care involves around-the-clock, 24/7 supervision and PHPs offer more hours of care, IOPs are designed to be flexible to your needs and daily routines, providing structured and effective care while also working around your professional life, personal life, and other obligations.

However, IOPs are best for those with practiced coping skills and who have graduated from detox or another level of care, and are not appropriate for those with active medical detox needs.

Who Our IOP Program in Houston Helps

Our outpatient drug rehab and alcohol addiction treatment is ideal for those transitioning out of inpatient care and who have prior treatment experience. By offering flexibility and real-world application, our personalized approach to your IOP is designed to challenge treatment fatigue through real-world, practical care, helping to build resilience, strengthen relationships in the community, and create a solid foundation for a healthy and transformative approach to long-term recovery.

Our IOP is ideal if you have:
  • Completed detox and are looking to step down from a higher level of care, such as residential treatment or a partial hospitalization program (PHP)
  • A need for ongoing support while managing daily responsibilities
  • Access to a healthy and stable at-home support system with family members and loved ones
  • Been looking to strengthen your recovery after inpatient rehab or a sober living program with structured, flexible care
  • A history of relapse
  • Tried another outpatient rehab program and are looking for a more personalized approach to maintain your hard-earned sobriety

How to Stop Drinking Alcohol: Practical Steps, Support, and Sustainable Change

Primary Substance Use Disorders We Treat

We offer outpatient care for an array of substances, helping you or your loved one overcome:
  • Alcohol
  • Opioids
  • Fentanyl
  • Cocaine
  • Marijuana
  • Benzodiazepines
  • Heroin
  • Meth
  • Xanax
We also offer comprehensive care for addressing the use of multiple substances at once, known as polysubstance use. Overcoming addiction to multiple substances can be complicated, and dedicated programs, alongside personalized support and person-first care, can help you address each of these needs in your journey.

Treating Co-Occurring Mental Health Conditions

We also provide care to address the underlying factors that informed substance use in the first place. Effective co-occurring mental health programs can help you overcome substance abuse as well as underlying challenges like trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, and challenges with anxiety, depression, grief, and stress, empowering you to develop a comprehensive plan for addressing addiction and these needs in tandem.

What Sets Us Apart

Recovery is more sustainable when care feels personal, connected, and built around real life — not a one-size-fits-all model. Our outpatient programs combine clinical expertise with community support to create a safe space where meaningful change can take root.

Case Management & Peer Coaching

While similar experiences can connect us, no two journeys in recovery are exactly the same. Personalized case management and peer coaching help you personalize your healing journey with the tools, information, and practical strategies catered to your unique goals in healing from addiction, drug abuse, mental health needs, and more.

Trauma-Informed Programming

Trauma and addiction can be intimately linked, and it is crucial to address them in tandem for truly transformative healing. Our personalized outpatient programs include options like EMDR and Seeking Safety to support comprehensive addiction and trauma healing.

Group and Individual Therapy

We offer both group and individual therapy, ensuring that you have a space to discuss your unique challenges and triumphs in a private environment while engaging with like-minded peers and community in group, creating a robust approach to your unique needs in recovery. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to address cravings and emotional patterns is available to support ongoing change.

Flexible Scheduling

You should never have to choose between your health and personal responsibilities. Our flexible scheduling empowers you to find the time in your busy day for healing. We can create a plan that tends to your work schedule so you can continue managing your professional life while still benefiting from effective treatment.

Evidence-Based Modalities Used in Our Houston IOP

Your unique treatment plan includes treatment services and evidence-based modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and more. Our compassionate and experienced team is prepared to work collaboratively with you to address the root causes of addiction and mental health struggles in our outpatient treatment programs, providing the tools and information needed in group and individual sessions to build resilience, new skills, and foster long-term well-being.

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is the gold standard of therapeutic approaches, exploring how thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors all interact and inform daily life. By focusing on the thoughts and beliefs a person holds (cognitive), you can change your daily life (behavioral), developing skills for emotional regulation, relapse prevention, and empowerment by replacing negative thoughts and behaviors with focused, positive ones.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a form of CBT that involves exploring two opposites, acceptance and change. These therapy sessions empower emotional regulation by accepting past events and challenges while focusing on controllable elements, creating a healthy approach to change and present-day sober life.

Trauma-Informed Therapy for Co-Occurring Disorders

Substance abuse and trauma can be intimately linked, with profound experiences shaping your worldview, beliefs, and mental well-being. Trauma-informed care explores your needs in addiction recovery while being cognizant of triggering events and situations, establishing an environment of physical and emotional safety, and curating a feeling of camaraderie with other survivors to explore effective change.

A Community-Driven IOP in Houston — Not a Corporate Facility
