Houston Intensive Outpatient Program for Substance Use Disorders

Our IOP also helps support your journey as you transition from residential treatment to outpatient care, working as a step-down so you still have access to the clinicians and professional support while taking on new freedoms, responsibilities, and building your life outside the rehab facility.
Our outpatient alcohol rehab and drug addiction treatment provides a structured, evidence-based approach that offers a higher level of care than traditional outpatient therapy that works around your daily life, responsibilities, and schedule. This balance enables you to integrate effective, personalized tools and strategies learned in treatment into your everyday routines, fostering sustainable growth and recovery while managing cravings, implementing effective relapse prevention, and promoting a holistic approach to physical and mental wellness.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common nicotine withdrawal symptoms include irritability, headaches, mood swings, anxiety, restlessness, difficulty concentrating on tasks, and compromised quality of sleep. These are accompanied by intense cravings for nicotine, creating a difficult scenario. Withdrawal is incredibly uncomfortable, and even those wanting to stop smoking may find themselves returning to nicotine simply to get the symptoms to stop, despite their better judgment or genuine commitment.
Professional support to navigate these challenges is crucial, both to ensure a person’s safety and prevent relapse when taking this important first step toward a nicotine-free life.
Nicotine replacement therapy works by using alternative medications and resources when urges manifest, providing a step down from smoking or other nicotine products while helping manage withdrawal symptoms. With medication and effective individual and group therapy, you can decrease and eventually stop the use of nicotine by replacing harmful products with moderated prescription doses of nicotine, without the other harmful chemicals common in tobacco products.
There are many similarities between vaping, e-cigarettes, and tobacco use, and these forms of addiction can share many qualities. However, there are unique considerations that make overcoming these challenges unique. Addressing the unique aspects of vaping, such as e-cigarette and vaping-associated lung injury (EVALI), is paramount. However, your nicotine addiction treatment program can always be personalized to address your needs, including physical and mental health needs, and the products used for the most personalized approach to lasting change.
Pharmacotherapy can be an effective approach to overcoming nicotine addiction, but there is a risk of some side effects when using medications to address withdrawal and support healing from addiction. Some medications can lead to headaches, anxiety, irritability, or disrupted sleep patterns, including affecting dreams. However, the side effects also depend on the medication used.
Talking with a professional, tracking side effects with professionals and supports, engaging in medication management with a professional at Harmony Grove Behavioral Health, and making adjustments are all part of the process, finding the combination of medication and therapy that supports your effective healing.
There is no one “better” option, as nicotine gum and nicotine patches provide different forms of relief. A nicotine patch provides a consistent, slower release of nicotine in moderated doses, providing long-acting support to help prevent withdrawal symptoms and manage cravings. Nicotine gum, however, provides a much shorter-term relief, used instead to address intense cravings in the moment. Which is better depends on your unique needs, efficacy of practiced coping strategies, and goals in nicotine addiction treatment.
Tobacco can be devastating to your mental and physical health, and the CDC outlines many advantages of quitting tobacco and nicotine products. From increased quality of life and life expectancy to lowered risk of cardiovascular disease, cancers, and improved reproductive health, quitting tobacco can be a major benefit to your health. Likewise, quitting tobacco can also help you find healthier and more fulfilling coping mechanisms for navigating stress, leading to a more fulfilling daily life. While overcoming nicotine addiction is difficult, it is always possible, and we can help you explore the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of quitting while exploring our community for long-term, sustained health.
Absolutely. For many, pregnancy can be a major reason to seek professional support to stop smoking, both for the health of the mother and the child. Harmony Grove Behavioral Health is prepared to work with you in your pregnancy to explore effective healing to promote the best possible program, support, and strategies for your health and lasting abstinence from nicotine even after pregnancy.
Yes! Addiction, including nicotine addiction, is classified as a disease and is covered by insurance programs, Medicaid, and Medicare plans. However, exactly how much is covered, what options are available, and the resulting financial expectations will all depend on your unique plan. Contacting your insurance provider to learn more about your specific insurance coverage plan is necessary before beginning a program. Harmony Grove is currently a private pay facility.
